Dynamic Pod Classroom Complete!

Posted on Fri, 07/31/2009 - 23:00

We are proud to announce that our talented team developed a dynamic pod like classroom building with the virtual world called Second Life. This development was created for one of our non disclosed clients. This virtual spaces is setup so that each classroom is on it's own separate parcel. That way any facilitator or teacher may stream video, or audio without disrupting the other classes.  We have added customizable features to this development for facilitators. These tools will allow them to do their jobs quickly and effectively within SL. Stay tuned to see what our team builds tomorrow!

We Broke Ground On Custom OpenSim Virtual World!

Posted on Thu, 07/30/2009 - 23:00

We are at it again! We have broke ground on a very large OpenSim private server grid development. This development will be for teachers to conduct online lectures with their virtual classes. We are building this tool outside of Second Life so that we can have full control over the system. The virtual world will have a learning management system tied into it which will allow teachers to track the students progress throughout the classes, and allow them to take their tests within this virtual world. We are building this custom virtual world to help support the large audience (around 800 concurrent users by 2010) that will be on these grid servers. We look forward to building this very large simulator (roughly around 6 sims connected) for our client. Be on the look out for new blog posts from our team to see the project come alive!

We are pleased to announce the completion of a redesign of the KK Motorcycle Supply website. Once the back-end of the website is complete the new look and feel will be applied. The goal of the site is to allow for inventory tracking throughout the distributors entire inventory system. The client will have employees log into the site and track the sales per day so that the company can better understand their inventory. The site will also allow wholesale buyers to order directly from the factory. The site will be fully customized to suit the clients need regarding content, inventory, users (employees), members (retailers), and even special promotions.

We are pleased to announce that we have completed a fully interactive 2.5D game-based learning module for one of our non-disclosed clients. The learning module consists of a quiz-like game structure followed by 5-10 minute 2.5D animated tutorials which includes 3D models of rooms and avatars, audio commentary, as well as streaming video. “Serious games” are developed to engage the user, as well as to entice the user to really want to learn the information that is being presented through the modules. This particular learning module is SCORM 1.2 and 2004 compliant and is tracking the users time, score of both the pre and post assessments, and bookmarks the user on each chapter to ensure the ability to come back to the previous place where he or she left off. We packaged this into the client’s current learning management system and it implements with a simple import of our zip file. Because we have an NDA with our client, we are unable to provide you with the actual module; however, we can provide you with screen shots (with the clients content blurred for privacy reasons). Thanks to all the hard work from the Putnam County Educational Service Center in collaboration with Designing Digitally, Inc., Andrew, and Alex Hughes. The two week technology camp was a great success for the rural area of Putnam County, Ohio. The students were taught how to use open source programs to develop photos, signs, T-shirts, magnets, video games, 3D models, Virtual Worlds, and much more!

We are glad that our President and our team could assist in putting together such a positive summer camp for kids and hopefully we met Andrew's goal of planting just one small seed of interest into those middle school kids.  We look forward to taking time out of our daily routine next year to help advance our future leaders by giving them the opportunity to experience the new cutting edge open source technologies out there.
