Another Top Secret Second Life Island
Client Projects No Comments »We’re at it again! We have another island to build this month. However, this is the first and last post we can make about this project. We are under an NDA with the client, therefore cannot tell you any information other than we started a new island build! This is for a very well known client (throughout the world) and we are excited to be able to brand them within SL. This is what the terrain of the island will consist of… Be on the look out because some day this client will announce that they have entered the 3D realm of Second Life!

American Century University Second Life Island
Client Projects, Second Life News Comments OffAmerican Century University (formerly Century University) and Designing Digitally Inc. are pleased to announce the grand opening of a new Second Life Island and Campus. American Century University (ACU) believes that live discussions, debate and presentation are integral to a quality university education. The real world does not exist in a vacuum of isolation and ACU doesn’t believe the world of education should either. ACU and Second Life have created a learning environment that conforms and enhances the major learning styles of audio, visual and kinesthetic learning. So, online students who want and or need a scheduled time to attend classes with live fellow students and instructors now have a place to call home.Things moved very quickly for ACU starting with the creation of their island by Linden Labs. The fast pace continued once our team started development. With the addition of a new member to the Designing Digitally Inc. team we were able to split the island and assign tasks for different requested items. The ACU online campus boasts classrooms, board rooms, lounges and a library nicely placed in a small island community atmosphere. Students can attend live classes or pick up recorded videos of what they missed. Being able to work together on separate sections the Designing Digitally team was able take a blank island an turn it into a metropolitan city with all the requested buildings in under 3 weeks.

Busy Bee’s!?
Client Projects No Comments »
Did I say busy bee’s before? If I really convinced you we were busy before what we have now will bring you to your knees. First, what we have done–Above is a graphic of four snapshots that were taken as we developed an Administration building on our latest fully developed Second Life island. The island is currently in the final stage and will be open next week! We will make a post when it is available so you can see it first hand.
Now here is where we get crazy. We have started two other Second Life islands. Thats right I said TWO! One of them we can’t really give too much info about, but when it is open we will be able to post a link for you to be able to see it. It is a really fun and exciting project for Designing Digitally and when complete is really going to add a great service to the clients company and the community of Second Life. The second island that we will be starting is for a traveling agency in the St. Louis area. I won’t leak to much info about this one quite yet but its St. Louis…so I’m sure you can use our imagination on what will be there (hint: it’s a huge ARCH!).
We are really kicking it into high gear now and will be able to add some great portfolio pieces to our portfolio in the next month. Much more to talk about but you’ll have to wait for the next post!
New Second Life Island - One Week’s Progress
Client Projects No Comments »
Above you can see a picture of our progress on the new island after 5 days of work. With the addition of the new team member that we have brought on for this project we are really able to hammer things out at a much faster pace. In the first couple days we were able to get in and start laying out the island as far as where the roads would be and what buildings would go where. After one week we had the school, courtroom, coffee shop and bookstore all created. It is nice to be able to move faster on these projects. When does the next one start?!?

The island will also be complete with an office building, coffee shop, bookstore among many other things!
We are also very pleased to add a new member to our Second Life development team! He will be joining us for this project and hopefully for many more to come.
Designing Digitally Finishes Another Second Life Island
Client Projects No Comments »Designing Digitally Inc. is very pleased to announce the completion of another Second Life island. Unfortunately, because of a nondisclosure agreement we cannot give away too many details. What I can say though is that it is a private island with the island theme that reflects Washington D.C., complete with the Capital Building, Reflection Pool, Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial. This island will be used for youth and therefore we cannot provide an SURL to the island. Nonetheless we are very happy to have another fully customized island under our belts and are very happy with the friendship and connection we have made with our client.

Designing Digitally Inc. Finishes Honolulu Fish & Seafood Corp. Second Life Headquarters
Client Projects No Comments »The Honolulu Second Life project was exciting for Designing Digitally, Inc., as it was unique to most builds that had been done in the past. Rather than owning a private island, Honolulu Fish and Seafood Corp. They had 4 regions next to each other on the main land. Although they expressed interest in purchasing a private island in the future, they felt it would be best to utilize their current land at this point. This was no problem for the Designing Digitally, Inc. team. The client had a strong vision for their island which they were able to convey through pictures and discussions, and the build took little more than week to develop from the ground up. Honolulu Fish and Seafood Corp.’s island is a replication of Pier 38 in Honolulu, Hawaii, complete with a dock and a building to hold all of their videos and product information.

Designing Digitally finished Ninthchapter.com
Client Projects No Comments »Designing Digitally Inc. sucessfully finished Nintchapter.com today! Congrats to our web development department!
NinthChapter is a forum for a community of writers with the ultimate goal of completing a book in nine chapters. Once you sign up to become a member of NinthChapter, you have the ability to write and submit a 1st Chapter. Other members can read this 1st Chapter and, if they like it, can write and submit the next chapter. Once a chapter is submitted, members have 3 weeks to submit the next chapter for a vote to take place on a specified date. The chapter that gets the most votes becomes the next chapter in the book. This process repeats itself until a book is completed – hopefully in nine chapters! Members are encouraged to discuss these chapters on message boards in order to create more ideas, to decide when to bring a story to a close, etc… NinthChapter will then attempt to get this book published. Those authors whose chapters were voted to be included will have their name, photograph (optional) and a short biography printed in the finished book. A percentage of a book’s profits will be split equally among the writers whose chapters were included in the book.
