The Challenge:,
Clearview Recovery Center is a premier residential program for the treatment of alcohol, drug and other addictive disorders and behaviors. To broaden the organization's reach and provide in home treatment for patients, Clearview Recovery Center decided to create a virtual world. To work in conjunction with the virtual world, the organization wanted to create an online community where patients could create an account, login to the virtual world, chat on message boards and posts blogs about their recovery process and experience.
The Solution:
The website that Designing Digitally, Inc. developed uses RegAPI to create a Second Life user for the client. After a patient registers they are able to log into Second Life for one on one meetings with clinical staff or to meet for group sessions. The island is themed around a northern U.S. wooded area and has spaces spread throughout the island for small informal group sessions including campfires, a picnic area, a dock overlooking the water and an outdoor shelter. The island features 3 main buildings: a headquarters with virtual offices and a board room, a classroom building with three large classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards and video screens, and a counseling center with large rooms for group sessions as well as one on one meetings.
The Results:
Second Life creates an easy to use platform and our island design creates a safe, comfortable, and stress free environment to aid in the recovery process. The Clearview Recovery Center has found that it’s patients appreciate the ability to join group sessions from the comfort of their home and overall patients that use the system are happier with the recovery process. Clearview staff has been excited to have the ability host classes and board meetings in the virtual space as well. The virtual Clearview Recovery Center is a true testament to the broad reach of virtual worlds and the possibilities these web based environments open to us.
