Elearning Course DevelopmentTips for Success

Training isn’t usually the first thing on people’s minds when they have down time. Gamification is effectively changing this scenario, so that engaging in training activities  may no longer be on the bottom of the to-do list.

Elearning course development uses components like fun, play, and competition to engage and motivate learners into a deeper level of understanding of content and processes. Employees will finish a training program when elements such as missions, badges, and leaderboards are implemented.

Getting started

The ultimate reason that a business puts forth so much effort to properly train their employees is for the company to succeed. Companies need to be successful and profitable. Keeping this in the forefront, there are some specific considerations when implementing gamification tools into training programs.

  • Specify the learning objectives. What is the business problem that the elearning course is trying to address? The aims should be clear, so extraneous information can be eliminated. Once the objectives are nailed down, each component of the activity is focused around those goals. Clear goals give the course the best chance of efficacy. A comprehensive needs analysis will determine the goals that need to be achieved from the training.
  • Think about the audience. Will the elearning course be customized for certain positions? Will there be different learning activities for different departments? These questions are important to answer as the training program is being developed. The content must be as relevant as possible to the employees, so that the training carries over into their real-life work.
  • Track success. What is the best way to document the success of individual learners? What about learners as a whole? As learners are working through their training programs, they need to  have a way to see how they are doing and where their efforts rank in terms of their peers. If employees see that they are consistently ranking lower than most of their coworkers, they may be motivated to engage at a higher level  and move up the ranks. Similarly, a worker who is near the top of the leaderboards will be motivated to hang on to their position. Elearning also permits the training department to assess the success of the training program.
  • Encourage collaboration. It is in the best interest of the company to provide employees as many chances to work cooperatively as possible. Creativity is spurred on by sharing ideas together and obtaining feedback from peers. Learning to work as a team is an invaluable asset to the company. Not only can coworkers be spurred on by healthy competition, but they can also have the desire to mentor those who are struggling.

Why is elearning course development important?

The reason that the planning stages of a gamification or game-based training program are so important is that the very success of a business can ride on the preparedness of the employees, who are representatives of their companies.

The customers and clients who do business with a company, who has sufficiently trained their workers, will be more satisfied with their experiences and more likely to give the company repeat business and refer others.

A customized elearning program provides the means for a company to retain employees, increase productivity, and positively impact the bottom line.  A healthy business has as its basis  a workforce that is properly trained and well-prepared to be an asset to their company.  Contact Designing Digitally, Inc. today to learn how their company can assist your company to meet business goals.
