Successful Mobile Learning Tips

Learners are using their mobile devices to access information anytime and place they need it. More and more organizations are embracing learning trends by offering mobile learning options. But, developing a successful mobile learning strategy can be daunting.

Here are five tips that can help organizations develop mobile learning for employees that is compelling and effective to achieve  overall strategic goals.

Tip #1: Identify the audience and objectives

The first step is to identify the end audience and what they expect to achieve from the training. You must find out as much as possible about the target audience. What information do they already have? What kind of mobile devices do they use? How much time can they devote to m learning ?

Then look at the objectives of the training. A thorough needs analysis must be conducted to identify the training needs. No matter how obvious it sounds, there are several programs that give priority to apps and tools, instead of focusing on the learning objectives. Ideally, you need to design courses that will help your learners develop skills faster and in a convenient manner.


Tip #2: Focus on the content and design

We must keep in mind that technology is a tool that helps us do things better, but the primary focus of any learning is the curriculum. Make sure the content is well-organized and relevant. Do not rush the design and development phase. Employees will have limited attention spans. And if you fail to deliver well-designed courses, employees will not be engaged and motivated to achieve the desired outcomes. A key point to consider is that mobile learning needs to be crisp and precise. Consider chunking content and offering bite-sized modules to the learners instead of long lessons.

Tip #3: Integrate social and emotional connect

In a mobile learning experience, students learn at their own pace. As a result, they may feel less connected to their team members. This is why it is necessary to integrate social elements into the course. Social networking encourages the learners to connect and collaborate with their peers and motivates them to go on. It introduces the emotional connection into learning. Once the learners get emotionally attached to the content, they will derive greater benefit from the training.

Tip #4: Utilize tracking data to provide better solutions

By using a SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) compliant tool, activities of the learners can be tracked. This data identifies what part of the course is working and what part is not. For example, if learners are not able to complete a particular lesson, that module may need to be redesigned. On the contrary, if learners are scoring exceptionally high on a specific topic, you may want to include additional resources and challenges on the topic.

Tip #5: Pilot the course

This is essential. Before you launch the learning organization-wide, test it on a small audience. Gather feedback and analyze it. Pilot testing will identify any glitches in the design. No matter how tight the  timeline for roll out, devote some time to testing and piloting. Testing and piloting will provide greater assurances of rolling out a successful training platform that will garner positive responses from the learners.
