Designing Digitally

Modern companies are constantly looking for better ways of hiring people and efficiently training them. Most studies show that a substantial portion of new employees will leave a company during their first 12 months on the job. The same studies also indicate that 69% of employees are likely to stay with an organization for three years if they have a positive onboarding experience.
The onboarding period can prove tricky for both employee and employer. Both parties might find it difficult to acclimate to this new situation. But everything could run a lot smoother if the entire onboarding process is streamlined and well thought out. So allow us to show you a few examples of how Designing Digitally (DDINC) helped Terminix fix their onboarding issues for Service Managers.
The Terminix “Coaching & Developing Your People” course focused on how employees in leadership positions engage with their subordinates. Participants in this course learn about coaching concepts and are then asked to make decisions based on those concepts. Highly visual interactions also need completing, assisting the learning process while users move through the course.
The course has helped Terminix Service Managers offer their management a unified set of rules that will help them lead their teams. A very tricky part of any training process is giving feedback to your team without being too harsh and maintaining an impartial stance. The questionnaire given after the course is over solves most of these problems. It allows Service Managers to understand better what issues employees are having throughout the course and identifies areas to support.

Hiring a new employee is another process that can prove immensely difficult for any manager. But all it takes is a well-thought-out plan, and DDINC has created exactly that with the Terminix “Hiring, Interviewing, & Creating Quality Talent Pools” course.
This eLearning course puts users in the role of a hiring manager. Employees must review options and select the best candidate for the job. As their first step, learners look over ten resumes and have to rate them on a scale of 1-3, with 1’s eliminated and the other two moving to the next step of recruitment. In this step, feedback is offered to the learner as needed.
Next, the learners are left with a smaller stack of resumes and have a full day of interviews with the remaining candidates. Alongside this step, they will also have a STAR rubric that will explain how to score an interview before they start accurately.
When selecting a potential hire, they will review their resume, the Job Interview Guide Questions, and the Terminix values. Once the interview has started, they will choose which questions to ask and guide the conversation. Feedback throughout this process is provided based on their decisions.
Once they complete the interview process, they will rate the conversation and move on to the following interview. When the interviews are over, they will choose the candidate they feel is most qualified and receive feedback based on this choice.
This course has offered Service Managers the perfect place to practice their hiring decision skills and a straightforward method of quantifying those results. The final result has been higher-quality hires and a lower turnover rate for the entire company.
A robust onboarding process is becoming a vital component of any successful company. The modern job market is more evolved than companies in the past. Various new positions need to be filled, and employees can bring many skills and assets to the table. This is why proper training needs prioritizing for any manager that has a part in recruitment.
Having a course ready for your employees will also show that you invest in developing their skills. In the long run, this will make them more loyal and less likely to leave your company before the 3-year mark.
And last but not least, offering these types of courses will also create a more unified company culture for all your employees. It’s easier to acclimate to the needs of a company when you’re new if you are given the right amount of information in a timely fashion.
