Mlearning

Pew Research Center conducted a survey of teachers, asking them about the impact of mlearning on education. As per the results of the survey, English teachers tend to use mobile technology more than math teachers. 47% of teachers agree that students need to be digital savvy in order to be successful in academics.

The verdict is clear. Facilitators and instructors need to embrace mobile learning for their classroom learning, if they wish to increase engagement of the students. Here are six effective ways to integrate mobile technology in the classroom.

#1: Audio recording

Learners prefer customized feedback for the work they submit in order to improve. It may not be always possible for instructors to provide written feedback to all students. It can be time consuming, if the instructor decides to write detailed observations for individual students. As an alternative, they can use the audio recording feature of smartphones to provide personal feedback. Learners will benefit from it, and the instructor saves a great deal of time.

#2: Polling tools

Most Learning Management Systems have live polling and quizzing options. There are numerous free source tools, as well. Lecturers can use them to determine what the learners already know, and also get feedback. They can set up an electronic quiz or a poll and the learners can send in their answers via a browser or text. It makes sense to start with something fun, and then move on to serious learning.

#3: QR codes

Quick response (QR) codes are yet another way to leverage the power of mobile technology in the classroom. Trainers can opt to code resources, images, diagrams, and make it available to the learners for later use.

#4: Videos

Audiovisual content is far more engaging than dry text and images. To garner the attention of the learners, then consider incorporating video elements into the learning modules. The videos can be on YouTube, or something specifically created for the module. If you have the budget, you choose to select sleek, professionally designed videos. If not, basic tools and stock photography can be used to create your own video.

#5: Activities

Consider using internet-related activities. The easiest way to encourage learners to use mobile technology is to make them use the search capabilities of the internet. Ask the learners to research certain information online as a pre-work. It could be an in-class group activity, too.

#6: Online learning space

LinkedIn can be considered an online learning space. It helps learners interact with each other. Learners can chat, post queries, respond in the forum, and so on. Instructors can post assignments or study materials on the space. That way, learners will have a go-to resource in case they wish to revise or revisit any topic.
