The Client

Ping, Inc. is an American sports equipment manufacturing company based in Phoenix, Arizona. It focuses on golf equipment, producing golf clubs and golf bags.

Sneak Peak

The Challenge

PING had been working to develop a simulation of their Club Fitting process to help train their accounts.

Although in-depth, PING was concerned their simulation would be too difficult for their target audience to thoroughly complete in a timely manner. Due to their own time constraints and sophisticated content, PING determined it would be best to find a vendor who could take their work and create a more user-friendly and streamlined simulation.

PING is proud of its fitting process and wanted all employees at the golf clubs and sports stores, including part-time employees, to be able to easily understand and know how to use their fitting process. Designing Digitally’s biggest challenge was taking the content and presenting it in a format that was accurate while also enjoyable and easy to understand. Given the wide use of the PING Club Fitting Process, PING may consider launching a more global-friendly version in the future.

The solution

To meet all of PING’s current and future goals, Designing Digitally originally recommended using Articulate Storyline. This would help keep expenses down and work well with the timeframe. However, after learning of PING’s future goals, Designing Digitally determined a Canvas-based series of modules would be the best platform for development. Canvas would allow for future expansion, more control of elements within the simulation, and eventual localization.

Designing Digitally worked closely with PING to craft a simulation that accommodated their in-depth fitting process. Designing Digitally was also able to design an interface that gave users access to informative guides while still taking the training. A key aspect to the simulation was for users to learn how to evaluate a customer’s ball flight and select a club that would give them their desired results. By using the simulation, learners can see the effect of using a particular club based on measurements of customer’s height and wrist-to-floor measurement.

In the end, Designing Digitally and PING created a visually appealing simulation that was intuitive and precise.
