In 2014, the global mobile data traffic grew by 69 percent with mobile website visits accounting for more than a quarter of the global web page views. Since then, these numbers have continued to go up. It has been proven that mobile learning is not just a passing trend; it is here to stay and is changing the way people learn.

With over a billion smartphones shipped every year, mobile devices have surpassed desktop units in sales figures. As per a report by Google in 2016, nearly 80 percent of the global workforce owns a smartphone, while the number of desktop users is well below 20 percent.
Increasingly, users and organizations are shifting towards the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies at the workplace, giving employees the freedom to use their personal devices at work. Gartner predicts that nearly 70 percent of the global workforce will use their personal devices for work by the year 2018. It also predicts that by that timeframe; an average mobile user will own more than three personal devices.
The millennial generation is always online. They start using their smartphones as soon they wake up, right before they go to bed, and live in a connected world, 24x7. According to comScore, about 20 percent of them use only a smartphone to stay connected, giving up on desktop devices completely. These millennials will constitute more than half of the global workforce by 2020.
Between 2010 and 2015, the daily usage of internet via mobile has grown from 0.4 hours to 2.8 hours. We are already spending, roughly, 20 percent of our daytime staring at a smartphone screen. Incorporating mobile learning adds value to mobile internet usage.
Leisure time for smartphone users is now learning time. Michaels & Associates reports that more than half of the exempt mobile learners prefer to do the learning as soon as they wake up, and an almost equal number (ok, it’s a small fraction less than half) prefer to do the learning before they go to sleep. Nearly 30 percent of corporate learners prefer mobile devices for on-the-go learning with bite-sized content to match their specific needs and help them improve their workplace performance.
A survey conducted by Asia-Pacific Skillsoft in 2015, revealed that more than two-third of the learners report improved engagement with the learning process with mobile learning solutions. This increased engagement, in turn, motivates them to successfully complete the courses in time with better than expected results.
As per the findings of a survey by CSE Software, Inc., more than 70 percent of organizations that implemented mobile learning strategies have reported that they are more adaptive to market changes than before. More than 75 percent of these organizations have witnessed business growth and more than half reported improved business outcomes after implementing mobile learning strategies.
