The Client

The U.S. Federal Courts Administrative Office is the agency within the judicial branch that provides a broad range of legislative, legal, financial, technology, management, administrative, and program support services to federal courts.

The Challenge

The United States Federal Court System recognized the need to train its staff in Lean Six Sigma methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in their daily operations. They were looking for an innovative way to educate employees on eliminating waste and inefficiencies in processes and reducing defects and variations.

The main challenge was removing extensive court hearings and proceedings queues due to processes and time frame allocations needing improvement. Employees needed to adopt Six Sigma practices and methods to enhance the efficacy and efficiency within the U.S. Court Systems.

The solution

To achieve this goal, the U.S. Courts partnered with the Designing Digitally team to develop a custom online training program focused on skilling employees on the Lean Six Sigma methods and how to apply them within job roles.

Our team began by conducting an extensive needs analysis of the U.S. Courts’ existing training programs to identify the requirements to produce the desired outcomes, tailor the training to each employee’s needs and workplace responsibilities, and meet strategic goals.

The training program used many approaches, but primarily utilized authentic situations and scenarios experienced by the U.S. Courts while educating employees on fundamental methodologies and practices trained by the Six Sigma frameworks.

The virtual training opportunity expands knowledge of process improvement, data analysis, root cause analysis, project management, quality control, etc. The training is structured around the series of levels, or belts, representing different proficiencies, highlighting the Green Belt within this program.

The program uses interactive and engaging content, including simulations, videos, quizzes, and more, to offer an enjoyable learning experience that increases involvement and completion. It utilized adaptive learning technologies, helping personalize each employee’s training process and improve retention rates.

Designing Digitally collaborated with the U.S. Courts throughout the entire consulting and development process to ensure the course aligned with their specific needs and visions, providing regular updates to ensure the outcomes exceeded expectations.

This collaboration resulted in a highly engaging and impactful training program that expands employee Lean Six Sigma capabilities and delivers the needed skills to eliminate inefficiencies and defects in processes, leading to better outcomes, higher quality services, and increased customer satisfaction.
