This client came to Designing Digitally, Inc. with a challenging concept of creating serious based games that were focused upon giving the reality of living life as a debt handling United States citizen. With the high unemployment rate and large number of people foreclosing on their homes, there is a large demand for educating the general public on the value of money and how to calculate exactly what it takes to live a certain standard of living. The target audience would be college age students looking to graduate and purchase their first home and the focus would be on what impact that will have on their budgets.
It was concluded that the best solution would be to build a 3D serious game that allowed the learner to fully understand exactly what it costs to purchase and maintain a home along with transportation to and from that home. To do so, Designing Digitally, Inc. set up scenarios similar to what the post college student would experience and in order to give them a stronger understanding of what the value of the dollar is to them once they graduate and start earning an industry-standard wage. Within the development there are twists and turns that in essence happen in real life such as accidental injuries, additions to families, the ups and downs of a fragile economy, and much much more. The solution was built as a browser-based 3D virtual simulation that would immerse the learner into the world providing a more lifelike experience than just presenting information in a two-dimensional fashion.
This development has created a positive experience for those wanting to learn the value of the dollar in the current economic condition and also provides an immersive learning experience that is above any other that has been provided for financial education.
